n.googs - The Hellenic Mixtape

The Hellenic Mixtape

After releasing 10 Beers (which you can download in the download section) in January of this year, I immediately began working on my next project, although which direction I would eventually end up taking was still unclear.  On 10 Beers I set out to make a completely open-source mixtape, using Ubuntu Linux coupled with Jokosher and Audacity.  It was a fun project to partake in, but the open source community doesn’t offer the same range of effects and mixing options as a professional, commercial, studio allows for.  10 Beers, although much more lyrical than anything I’d done up to that point, suffered from poor sound quality and sub par mixing. I threw some ideas around my team, including a rap-opera based on my all time favorite TV show Boy Meets World (I promise that this is still in the pipeline!!). Eventually I began work on what I thought was to be my second full album, following up 2009’s The Greek Album.  About halfway through The Man In The Mirror I decided to shelf the project in favor of a free mixtape, which would turn out to be The Hellenic Mixtape.  Sort of a follow-up to The Greek Album, The Hellenic Mixtape is a much more mature, emotional and, in my opinion, overall better project. I’m truly confident that this is my best project to date.  I’m looking forward to completing both Volume 3: The Man In The Mirror, which will mostly feature production by myself and Greek Street collaborator J Simes, and Kid Gets Acquainted With The Universe: A Mixtape About Feeney, which will exclusively feature production by Dust Hill.  I’ll post the mixtape’s tracklist below, and you can download it from either the above link or the downloads section.
